THE CHALMETTE SLIP
The Chalmette Slip is a 1,700 foot long channel, 300 feet wide and 36 feet
deep, protruding at an acute angle into the left descending bank of the
Mississippi River. The Slip is a unique facility - a deep draft, calm water
harbor on the Mississippi River . The Slip provides safe
harbor to vessels loading or discharging cargoes.
DOCK NO. 1
Dock No. 1 occupies the upstream side of the Slip. It is 1,300 feet long by
150 feet wide and is divided into three berths. The rear of the dock is served
by three rail spur lines. Dock No. 1 is currently used primarily for the
trans-shipment of dry bulk materials.
DOCK NO. 2
Dock No. 2 is 1,680 feet long by 150 feet wide and primarily handles
break-bulk, neo-bulk and containers. The rear of the dock is also served by rail
and has an additional 150-foot wide marshaling area adjacent to the tracks.
ARABI TERMINAL
The Arabi Terminal consists of a 25-acre marine terminal and 100 acres of
adjacent ground. The marine terminal, which is surrounded by the Mississippi
River Levee, consists of three basic components: a calm water basin, laydown
area for expansion, and access to rail and truck routes.
VACANT LAND
The Port owns an additional 100 acres of land lying between the marine
terminal and St. Bernard Highway.
INTERMODAL TRANSFER (on dock)
The Port does not own any stevedoring equipment. Independent contractors can
supply mobile floating cranes as needed.
WAREHOUSE STORAGE
The Port has 100,000 square feet of covered space with rail tracks and truck
bays.
YARD STORAGE
The Port has 136.5 acres of yard storage. There is approximately 12 acres of
water frontage, 124.5 acres for leasing and 1 acre of cement pad.

construction of the Slip. The St. Bernard Port purchased the property on January
29, 1993, from the Norfolk Southern Corporation.
FUTURE PLANS
- Dock No. 1 and 2 Rehabilitation - larger warehouse, strengthening and
widening of docks and apron.
- Dock No. 1 repairs expected to commence Fall 1996.
- Dock No. 2 repairs expected to commence Spring 1997.
CHALMETTE TERMINAL
LOCATION
The Chalmette Terminal and Industrial Park is located one mile downriver from
the Arabi Terminal (mile 90.5 AHP). Chalmette Terminal encompasses 216 acres of
land with more than 1.8 million square feet of building space, 150 acres of open
land and over 20,000 square feet of office space available for leasing.
Recently, several buildings have been redesigned and rehabilitated for leasing
to major clients.
The site is fully equipped with all necessary utilities including
electricity, gas, water, and sewerage. Almost any requirement for water and
power can be met. High pressure natural gas crosses the site.
FUTURE PLANS
Rehabilitations of several buildings are continuing on a "rehab or build
to suit" based on tenant requirements. Recently, the site was selected by
five new lessees thus increasing the total tenants to over 24 firms.
BRIEF HISTORY OF CHALMETTE TERMINAL
