| The C. Alvin Bertel Award is presented annually to an
individual in recognition of outstanding contributions to
the advancement of the Greater New Orleans port area. |
Danny Hughes has 25 years
experience in domestic and international construction and operating
activities in such diverse fields as utility construction, oilfield
construction, ship repair, commercial real estate/hospitality
construction, and retail. He is Chairman of the Board and Owner of
Diversified Group, LLC in Harahan, a group of companies encompassing
$59 million in annual revenues and 450 full-time employees.
Mr. Hughes was appointed to the
Dock Board by Governor Foster to a Jefferson Parish seat of the
Board of Commissioners in December, 2003. He spearheaded the Port
initiative to remove the Board’s $100 million bond cap and served as
Chairman of the Property and Insurance Committee through Hurricanes
Katrina and Rita. Since assuming the Dock Board Chairmanship in
August of 2007, he has served as Vice Chairman on the Riverfront
Development Committee and has been instrumental in the development
of the Port’s recently announced 2020 Master Plan calling for $1
billion of investment in the next 11 years.
