A Luncheon Briefing featuring His Excellency Jaime Daremblum Friday, June 25 12:00 Noon (11:30 a.m. reception) Trade with Louisiana In 1998, Louisiana’s exports to Costa Rica totaled $184 million (a 1% decline from the prior year), of which $128 million was agricultural commodities, $26 million was chemicals and allied products, $14 million was petroleum products, $3 million was food products, $3 million was rubber and plastic products, and $3 million was paper products. Trade with Costa Rica through the Port of New Orleans totaled $445 million in 1997, (the most recent year’s figures), with $180 million of U.S. exports to Costa Rica moving through the Port ($18 million of maize, $22 million of soybeans, and $6 million of wheat), while $165 of U.S. imports from Costa Rica transited the Port ($39 million of green coffee, $26 million of hard rubber, and $1 million of fruit and nuts). About Ambassador Jaime Daremblum Prior to assuming his current post, Ambassador Daremblum practiced law and was a professor of international politics and economics at the University of Costa Rica and the Autonomous University of Central America. He also has served since 1975 as a professor and senior research fellow at the Center for Political and Administrative Research (CIAPA), affiliated with Tulane University. Ambassador Daremblum earned his law degree with honors in 1963 from the University of Costa Rica and holds two M.A. degrees and a Ph.D. from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy in Medford, Massachusetts.
